Track and Field Ends January at McNeese Invite

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Alcorn State track and field teams close out  January on a high note with an excellent showing at the final meet of the month. The women's team took fifth place in a field of 12, while the men's team came in 11th at the McNeese Indoor Invite.

Stellah Kiptui led the way with a first-place finish in the mile run. She ran a time of 10:09, breaking the previous record of 10:26. Other female standouts were McKenzie Patterson, Jasmine Ward, Kaylin White, Khiah Williams, and Qua'neshia Mitten.

Patterson ran a season-best of 59.83 to take second in the 400m run, and Ward took fourth with a time of 1:00.57.

In the field events, White took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 17'6, Williams finished fourth in the high jump at 5'1, and Mitten came in fifth in the triple jump at 35'6.5.

On the men's side, freshman Kelvin Kipkemoboi set a school record in the mile run at 4:30:03, breaking the previous record of 4:35. He took fourth place. The 4x400 relay team consisting of Johnny Holloway, III, Arrington Robinson, Marciano Taylor, and Terrell White, recorded a season-best of 3.25.04 to take fourth.

The Braves return to action on Sunday, February 5, for the final regular meet of the season before the SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Alcorn is set to compete at the USA Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.
