LORMAN, Miss. -- Alcorn State University head coach Jenna Wallace and the Lady Braves celebrated their first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) win of the season on Friday night as they defeated the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 1-0. The match marks the first SWAC win in the Wallace era at Alcorn.
"It was a good game, a hard-fought game on both sides," said Wallace. "We put together a 90 minute game where we kind of let our level drop off and that's been a challenge for us all season. Everybody executed on what we needed to do and when everybody does a good job, we come out successful."
The Lady Braves (3-9, 1-4 SWAC) were able to snatch the win from the Lady Golden Lions (7-7-1, 3-2 SWAC) off the foot of junior defender, Jiselle Bartres in the 87th minute.
When asked about her first SWAC win at Alcorn, Coach Wallace talked about it being huge as the program has been through a lot of changes.
"It's huge and means so much to me," Wallace said. "Being here the past two seasons and seeing this program go through so many changes, there were a lot of kids helping push that change. There was a lot of hard work that went on behind the scenes in getting the program to where it needs to be. I'm super happy for everybody involved for us to get our first win."
Alcorn will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 8 at Spinks-Casem Stadium as they face Grambling State University to close out Homecoming game action. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
