Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against Roosevelt

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State baseball team's losing streak came to an end as the Braves split a doubleheader with Roosevelt University Saturday afternoon. Alcorn defeated the Lakers, 6-5, in the day's first game but dropped the last 15-0. The Braves move to 1-5 on the season as Roosevelt goes 4-3.

Jaylon Lucky led the Braves at the plate with a 3-for-4 appearance in game one. The Atlanta, Ga. native connected for a double and had one RBI and one run in the effort. Michael De Angelis also had a great showing. The freshman first baseman went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs.

Kiki Ford (1-0) received his first pitching win of the season. He entered the game in the final inning (seventh) to record one walk and one strikeout. Jermel Ford opened the contest on the mound to throw 5.0 innings with five hits against, three earned runs, one walk, and four strikeouts.

As a team, the Braves outhit Roosevelt 9-7 but committed more errors 3-2.

In the second contest, Alcorn struggled at the plate. The Braves blanked in the first two innings, recording their first hit in the bottom of the third when Dillon Crowell singled to the shortstop. Kalum Banks, Jr. would also see a hit, but CJ Chatman led his team with a 2-for-3 appearance.

On the mound, Kameron Hopson was credited with the loss. The Hattiesburg, Miss. native started the game to pitch for 2.0 innings with five hits against, five runs (four earned), four walks, and one strikeout.

The Braves will return to the field on Saturday, Feb. 27, for the final contest of the four-game series. The first pitch has been moved to 10:30 a.m.
