LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State Softball opens the 2023 season, cohosting the fourth annual River City Classic with Jackson State University at the Sports Force Parks in Vicksburg, Miss on Friday, February 10-Saturday, February 11. The Lady Braves will take on JSU, Southeastern Baptist College, and Alabama A&M during the two-day event.
Alcorn enters its first season under head coach Eugenia Fernandez and is predicted to finish fifth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division. The Lady Braves return several key players to the diamond, including Vicksburg native Kelsey Lockridge, senior outfielder Kristian Edwards, sophomore pitcher Ta'Niyah Fletcher, power hitter Tyesha Cole, senior pitcher Alexa Veamoi, and former SWAC All-Tournament team member Marsha Hunt.
Alcorn kicks off the River City Classic on Friday against Jackson State at 11:00 a.m. The team will return on Saturday to take on SBC at 2 p.m. and AAMU at 4 p.m.
