Track and Field Wins Six Events at the MC Spring Cleaning Classic

CLINTON, Miss. – The Alcorn State track and field teams won six events. They had two other top-three finishes on Saturday, giving the Braves eight medals at the outdoor season-opening Mississippi College Spring Cleaning Classic hosted by MC at the James E. Parkman Track.

Terrell White won the men's 400m in 48.04 for a personal best. His previous personal best was set in 2021 at Southeastern Louisiana with a time of 48.92.

Kelvin Kipkemboi took gold in the men's 5000m setting a new school record with a time of 14:54.20. The previous outdoor school record was set in 2021 by Christian Franklin at 15:36.51.

Jeremiah Saintil won the men's long jump. He leaped for 7.04m. He also placed first in the men's triple jump with a distance of 14.56m.

Khiah Williams won the women's long jump. She leaped for 6.01m to break her previous record of 5.71m set in 2022 at Southern Miss.

The final Braves gold of the day was for the men's 4x400m relay. White, Arrington Robinson, Elijah Moncure, and Marciano Taylor finished with a time of 3:14.27.

Other medals of the day include Stella Kiptui, who placed third in the 1500m with a time of 4.51.63, and McKenzie Patterson, who grabbed a bronze in the women's triple jump with a distance of 10.75m.

Kimorla Mushette broke her record in the women's 200m. She finished at 26.43, breaking her record of 26.77 set in 2021 at Northwestern State.

Charles Nnantah, Jr. found a new personal record in the men's 200m. He ran 23.18, .18 seconds less than his previous personal best of 23.36. His last personal record was set in 2022 at Southeastern Louisiana's Strawberry Relays.

Jeremiah Wingate recorded a new personal best in the 800m run. He crossed the finish line with a time of 2:04.66, almost two seconds less than his previous record of 2:06.91 at the 2022 Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. He also pr'd in the 1500m with a time of 4:20.87, breaking his previous record of 4:23.21 in the 2021 Strawberry Relays.

Marciano Taylor significantly improved his performance in the men's 1500m. He broke his previous record of 4:33.47 set at the 2021 Mississippi College Season Opener with a time of 4:20.04.

The Braves will be back on the track and field on Friday, March 17, when they head to Ruston, La., for the two-day Jim Mize Invitational hosted by La Tech.
