HAMMOND, La. – The Alcorn State men's and women's track and field teams faced stiff competition at the Strawberry Relays on Saturday hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University The Braves performed well to see three first-place finishes and 27 top-ten placements in the match-up.
On the women's side, the Lady Braves took the gold, silver, and bronze in the women's long jump. Khiah Williams leaped to a distance of 5.72m (18'9.25) for the first-place medal and her second gold this season. Kaylin White grabbed second place with a length of 5.25m (17' 2.75"), and De'Aisha Davis placed third with 5.16m (16'11.25).
Jazmine Ward reached gold in the women's 400m. She completed the race in 57.85. She also placed fifth in the 100m with a personal record of 12.88.
On the men's side, the Alcorn state 4 x 400m relay team (Johnny Holloway, III, Elijah Moncure, Arrington Robinson, and Terrell White) finished first with a time of 3.19.92
Kelvin Kipkemboi grabbed a silver medal in the 1500m with a personal best of 4:06.56.
Placing third, Kiion Smith finished with 43.72m in the men's discus.
The Braves and Lady Braves return to the track and field on Friday, April 21, to participate in the Warhawk Classic hosted by the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
