BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alcorn State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the University of Alabama-Birmingham's Vulcan Invitational on Saturday morning.
    In the men's 60-meter dash, Amiri Franklin placed 18th with a time of 7.10 seconds. Tydreke Thomas of Troy University placed first in the event with a time of 6.72 seconds while Danarrion Ard of Mississippi State University came in second with a time of 6.75 seconds. Jace Coleman of Jackson State University was third place with a time of 6.77 seconds.
    In the men's 600-meter run, Terrell White finished in 10th place with a time of 1:23. Mississippi State's Tyrese Reid came in first with a time of 1:18.28 while teammates, Dan Joyce finished second with a time of 1:18.72 and Samuel Navarro finished in third with a time of 1:20.74.
    Alcorn's Arrington Robinson finished in eighth place for the men's 300 meter run with a time of 35.39 seconds. Alfonso Hale, Jr. of Mississippi State won the event with a time of 34.14 seconds. In second place, Javel Fullerton of the University of Southern Mississippi with a time of 34.23 seconds. Rounding out the top three was unattached runner, Marcus Chambers, with a time of 34. 58 seconds.
    Kendrick Matthews finished in 17th place in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.23. Zephaniah Carico McLennan of Samford University took first place with a time of 1:54.60 while teammates, Harrison Siegel came in second place with a time of 1:55.29 and Grayton Murray took third place with a time of 1:58.34.
    In the men's 4x400 relay, Alcorn's team (Arrington Robinson, Kendrick Matthews, Jeremiah Saintil, Terrell White) finished in 12th place with a time of 3:26.82. Mississippi State took first place with a time of 3:16.87. Florida A&M University came in second place with a time of 3:17.63. The University of Alabama-Huntsville placed third with a time of 3:19.20.
    Saintil competed in the men's long jump and finished in 14th place with a jump of 6.72 meters (22'0.75"). Southern Mississippi's Deandre Ward came in first place with a jump of 7.48 meters (24'6.5"). Tafadzwa Chikomba of Meridian Community College finished in second place with a jump of 7.40 meters (24'3.5"). Kennedy Stringfellow of Mississippi State came in third place with a jump of 7.34 meters (24'1").
    Tyson Keys came in 21st place in the men's shot put with a throw of 12.70 meters (41'8"). Roury McCloyen of Mississippi State took first place with a throw of 17.67 meters (57'3.75"). Troy's Altwayne Bedward came in second place with a throw of 16.70 meters (54' 9.5"). Piers Cameron of Southern Miss was third place with a throw of 16.60 meters (54' 5.5").
    Alcorn State will compete in the Samford Invitational hosted by Samford University from Jan. 18 – 19 in Birmingham, Ala.
