Lady Braves Compete in UAB Vulcan Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alcorn State University women's indoor track & field team traveled to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the UAB Vulcan Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday morning.

    In the women's 60-meter dash, Taliya Spurlock finished the run in 28th place with a time of 7.98 seconds. Takysa Thomas was in 29th place with a time of 7.99 seconds. Florida A&M University's Tionna Brown won the event with a time of 7.42 seconds while her teammate Nya Blocker came in second place with a time of 7.46 seconds. Jada McDougle of the University of Southern Mississippi came in third place with a time of 7.47 seconds.

    Alcorn's Kadijah Ramsey came in 21st place in the women's 200 meter run with a time of 27.23 seconds. Mississippi State University's Rickyla Fagan came in first with a time of 25.19 seconds. Taliyah Lindsey of Meridian Community College was second place with a time of 25.28 seconds. Tatiana Martinez of Florida A&M took third place with a time of 25.36 seconds.

    In the women's 300-meter run, ASU had four runners in the top 20. Jasmine Ward came in 14th place with a time of 42.60 seconds while Brianna Wilson took 15th place with a time of 42.61 seconds. Shy'Kerria Curtis finished in 18th place with a time of 43.63 seconds. Mckenzie Patterson rounded the top 20 with a time of 45.18 seconds. Georgia State University's Blake Blakemore took top honors in the event with a time of 38.77 seconds. Rosealee Cooper of Mississippi State came in second place with a time of 38.99 seconds. Trinity Benson of the University of Southern Mississippi took third place with a time of 39.03 seconds.

    In the women's 600-meter run, Alcorn's Jade Caesar finished the day in 13th place with a time of 2:01.71. Mallory Streetman of Mississippi State won the event with a time of 1:33.91. while Alesia Douglas from FAMU took second place with a time of 1:34.64. Hayley Ogle of Mississippi State came in third place with a time of 1:35.58.

    The Lady Braves 4x400 meter relay team (Jasmine Ward, Americus Knight, Taliya Spurlock, Brianna Wilson) finished 12th with a time of 4:09.49. Florida A&M won the event with a time of 3:49.80 and Mississippi State finished second with a time of 3:54.39. Jackson State came in third with a time of 3:55.82.

    In the women's long jump, De'Aisha Davis came in 27th place with a jump of 4.95 meters (16' 3.25") while Knight finished 35th with a jump of 4.63 meters (15' 2.25"). Mississippi State's Kennedy Jackson took first place with a jump of 5.75 meters (18' 10.5") while Ellison Chadwick from Samford University came in second place with a jump of 5.75 meters (18' 10.5"). Miahna Harden of Alabama A&M University finished in third place with a jump of 5.71 meters (18' 9").

    Alcorn State will compete in the Samford Invitational hosted by Samford University from Jan. 18 – 19 in Birmingham, Ala.
