Lady Braves Look for Revenge Against BCU, FAMU

LORMAN, Miss. – Coach Nate Kilbert and Alcorn State University women's basketball (5-17, 3-8 SWAC) will welcome Bethune-Cookman University and Florida A&M University to the Davey L. Whitney Complex over the weekend. The Lady Braves will play the Wildcats on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. and the Rattlers on Monday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m.

    Earlier in the season, Alcorn traveled to each institution for a contest and came back with two losses. Against the B-CU (Jan. 29), ASU dropped the contest, 58-66, and Destiny Brown led the team with double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds while recording four assists, four steals, and three blocks. In the outing with FAMU (Jan. 27), the Lady Braves were defeated 56-60 and Brown led the team with 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block.

    For the season, Zy'Nyia White leads the team in scoring, averaging 12 points with Brown right behind her averaging 11. Brown and Cheatham lead Alcorn in rebounding averaging 7.3 and 7.2 boards, respectively. Tyginae Wright is the assist leader averaging 3.2 dishes.

    Bethune-Cookman (14-10, 5-6 SWAC) visits the Whitney Complex after a one-point 64-65 loss to Texas Southern University. Kayla White led B-CU in scoring with 18 on 7-18 shooting. She also added eight rebounds, three assists, and a team-high five steals. D'Shantae Edwards added 15 for B-CU on 5-10 shooting. Kayla Clark grabbed a team-high nine boards.
Chanelle McDonald leads the team in scoring and rebounds with 10.3 points and 4.8 boards. White leads the Wildcats in steals averaging 2.2 per game.

    Florida A&M (7-15, 6-5 SWAC) meets the Lady Braves after a 71-63 win over Prairie View A&M University. Against the Panthers, Ahriahna Grizzle led the Rattlers with 27 points and four steals. Nashani Gilbert added six points, eight rebounds and two steals and Sydney Hendrix chipped in as well with six points and eight rebounds off the bench. Jaliya Sharp pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Florida A&M, grabbing 15 boards and turning them into six second chance points.

    Grizzle leads the team in scoring, assists, and steals averaging 19.7 points, three assists, and 2.5 steals per game. Gilbert leads the team in rebounding averaging 5.3 boards per game.
