Braves 4x400 Relay Team Takes Third, Alcorn Runs at Jaguar Invitational

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University men's 4x400 meter relay team claimed third place as the Braves competed in the Jaguar Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama over the weekend. ASU hit the track and field against schools such as Christian Brothers University, the University of Memphis, and Cumberland University (Tenn.).

    The Braves (Arrington Robinson, Johnny Holloway, III, Kendrick Matthews, and Trellas Forrest) earned third place as they crossed the finish line at 3:21.72. Christian Bros. (A) took first place with a time of 3:19.68 and Texas Southern University (A) came in second place with a time of 3:21.70.

    In the men's 200-meter run, Trellas Forrest finished in sixth place with a time of 22.02 seconds. Robinson also competed and finished with a time of 22.26 seconds. Samford University's Cagan Campbell came in first place with a time of 21.59 seconds. Ayomide Oyetunji of Hinds Community College was second with a time of 21.62 seconds while Chris Gravois of the University of Louisiana finished in third place with a time of 21.63 seconds.

    Terrell White came in seventh place in the men's 400-meter run with a time of 49.55 seconds. Trellas Forrest crossed the finish line with a time of 49.86 seconds. Elijah Moncure also competed in the event and finished with a time of 52.65 seconds. Meridian Community College's James Thomas won first place with a time of 48.69. Campbell (Samford) finished in second place with a time of 48.71 seconds. In third place, Courtland Noble (Memphis) finished with a time of 48.77 seconds.

    Holloway ran in the men's 60-meter dash and finished with a time of 7.04 seconds. Oyetunji (Hinds CC) took first place with a time of 6.76 seconds while Gravois (Louisiana) came in second place with a time of 6.82 seconds. Rounding out the top three, Keon Buck of Meridian Community College finished with a time of 6.83 seconds.

    Matthews finished with a time of 2:05.29 in the men's 800-meter run. Jordan Morris of the University of South Alabama crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:53.97. Texas Southern's Brandon Washington came in second place with a time of 1:54.02. Forbes Joel of Cumberland (Tenn.) finished in third place with a time of 1:56.15.

    In the men's mile run, Jaden Ramos ran for the Braves and finished with a time of 5:22.15. Jose Gonzalez of Texas Southern took first place with a time of 4:13.18. Memphis' Robert Arnold finished in second place with a time of 4:13.44 while Reece Shelby (Louisiana) came in third place with a time of 4:15.06.

    Kelvin Kipkemboi and Bethwel Limo competed in the men's 3000-meter run. Kipkemboi finished with a time of 8:56.42 and Limo crossed the finish line with a time of 10:20.72. Arkansas State University's Jacob Lawrence came in first place with a time of 8:22.43. Jon Fielder Stogner of Lee University (Tenn.) finished in second place with a time of 8:29.43.

    Alcorn State will hit the track again on Friday, Feb. 9 in the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
