LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University Lady Braves basketball looks to bounce back on the road against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State University. The Lady Braves will go head-to-head with UAPB on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 12:05 p.m. in H.O. Clemmons Arena and then head to Itta Bena on Monday, Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. for MVSU in the R.W Harrison HPER Complex.
ASU (4-16, 2-7 SWAC) are reeling off a 55-72 loss to Grambling State University at home on Monday night.
Destiny Brown led the way ASU with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. She also accounted for one assist.
Nakia Cheatham racked up 12 points and four rebounds.
For the season, Zy'Nyia White leads the Lady Braves in scoring averaging 12.1 points while
Destiny Brown is close behind in second averaging 10.8 points. Brown also leads the team in rebounds with 7.2. boards per game.
Nakia Cheatham is second on the team in rebounding averaging 6.8 rebounds per game.
Tyginae Wright is the offense initiator for Alcorn averaging 3.1 assists per game.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (12-10, 7-2 SWAC) defend their home court after a definitive 77-48 win over Prairie View A&M University. The Golden Lions had three players score in double figures, led by Zaay Green, who had 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and six steals. Coriah Beck tacked on 17 points and Maya Peat chipped in as well with 10 points and three blocks.
Green leads the team in every statistic averaging 16.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. Beck is second in scoring averaging 12.5 points.
Mississippi Valley State (2-20, 1-8 SWAC) was defeated in their last outing by UAPB on Feb. 3, 70-76. The Delta Devilettes were led by Aaliyah Duranham with 17 points and seven rebounds. She was followed by Jaylia Reed with 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Lizzie Walker accounted for a team-high nine rebounds and six assists.
Zaria Harleaux is the leading scorer and rebounder averaging 11 points and 7.9 rebounds. In assists, Krisen Hunt and Kerrigan Johnson are tied averaging 2.6 assists.
