AUBURN, Ala. – Alcorn State University women's track and field traveled to compete in the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University on April 20. The Lady Braves competed against Harvard University, Troy University, the University of Louisiana, and Samford University.
In the 100-meter dash,
Taliya Spurlock, Tekysa Thompson, and
Kadijah Ramsey ran for Alcorn. Spurlock finished the race in 12.69 seconds, Thompson finished in 12.87 seconds, and Ramsey crossed the finish line in 12.89 seconds. Chante Clinkscale of Auburn University placed first in 11.27 second. Louisiana teammates, Amairi Ashford and Mari Robinson, came in second and third place with times of 12.00 seconds and 12.04 seconds, respectively.
Jasmine Ward and
Tionna Harris competed in the 400-meter run. Ward finished the race in 57.34 seconds while Harris crossed the finish line in 58.08 seconds. Victoria Bossong (Havard) came in first place in 52.16 second. Unattached runner Rondajai Washington was second place in 54.96 seconds. Latiana Acker of the University of South Alabama finished in third place in 55.25 seconds.
In the 1,500-meter run, Shareen Cheruiyot and
Joyce Kiptum ran for the Lady Braves. Cheruiyot finished in 5:02.02 while Kiptum crossed the finish line in 5:36.06. Auburn University's Hailey Marston finished in 4:44.12. Lia Castillo of the University of Alabama – Birmingham (UAB) came in second place in 4:44.84. Castillo's teammate, Kathleen Schellman, was in third place in 4:45.25.
De'Aisha Davis was the lone Alcorn competitor in the triple jump. Davis finished with a flight of 11.77 meters (38' 7.5"). Unattached jumper Simone Johnson won the event with a flight of 12.65 meters (41' 6"). Iyana Johnson (South Alabama) took second place with a flight of 12.58 meters (41' 3.25"). Taylor Davis (Louisiana) came in third place with a flight of 12.50 meters (41' .25").
In the shot put,
Destinee Lanham and
Gabrielle Christopher represented Alcorn State. Lanham finished with 9.58 meters (31' 5.25") and Christopher ended the event with 8.98 meters (29' 5.5"). Unattached thrower Maura Huwalt came in first place with 16.16 meters (53' .25"). Auburn teammates, Megan Hague and Marley Raikiwasa, took second and third place with throws of 16.06 meters (52' 8.28") and 15.58 meters (51' 1.5"), respectively.
