Lady Braves Run at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES. La. –Alcorn State University women's cross country kicked off their season at the McNeese State Opener held at Enos Derbonne Complex on Friday morning. The Lady Braves competed in the 3,000m run and came in fifth place with a score 122 points. The team finished with a time of 1:07:25.
              
    Louisiana State University (LSU) finished in first place with a score of 20 points and time of 52:07. Host McNeese took second place with a score of 47 points and time of 55:05. Stephen F. Austin University (SFA) came in third place with a score of 88 points and time of 1:00:09.
              
    Teresa Gallegos had Alcorn's fastest time for the Lady Braves crossing the finish line in 11:50.6. Shareen Cheruiyot finished in 12:24.7. Joyce Kiptum and Jaleah Netter ended the race in 14:21.6. Jasmine Roberston finished in 14:27.1. Jade Ceasar crossed the finish line in 16:03.7 while Shy'Kerria Curtis ended th4e race in 19:20.8.
              
    McNeese's Jeny Barcenas claimed first place with a time of 10:20.6. Gwyneth Hughes and Sophie Martin of LSU finished in second and third place, respectively. Hughes had a time of 10:22.2 and Martin finished in 10:24.2.
              
    The Lady Braves will hit the course on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the University of Texas – Tyler in Tyler, Texas.
