TYLER, Texas -- The Alcorn State University women's cross-country team placed eighth at the UT-Tyler XC Opener on Saturday. The Lady Braves recorded a total time of 2:08:34 and an average mile time of 25:42. UT Tyler secured first place with a total time of 1:42:11 and 37 points. Stephen F. Austin and Harding University placed second and third, respectively.

Teresa Gallegos led the Lady Braves with a strong seventh-place finish, clocking 20:30.6.
Shareen Cheruiyot (22:07.4), Jasmine Robertson (27:37.8), Jaleah Netter (28:10.7), and Jade Ceasar (30:08) also contributed solid performances.
    The top runners for the event were Valentine Jemutai of Stephen F. Austin in first place (18:40.3), Kylan Holland (Hardin-Simmons University) in second place (19:48.7), and Josie Parks (Harding) in third place (20:00.8).
    Alcorn will hit the course again on Saturday, Sept. 28 as they travel to Thibodaux, La. for the 6th Annual Nicholls XC Invitational Presented by Walk-On's hosted by Nicholls State University.
