Braves Conclude SWAC Indoor Championships with Personal Bests and Strong Performances

FINAL RESULTS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
– The Alcorn State University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the 2025 SWAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday, February 23, at the Birmingham CrossPlex, with several standout performances and multiple personal records (PRs) set.

Men's Highlights

Freshman Derrick Williams continued to impress, securing a second-place finish in the men's 200-meter dash, setting a new personal best (PR) and school record of 20.98 seconds. He also delivered a strong performance in the 60-meter dash, finishing fourth overall with a time of 6.85 seconds.

Freshman Vederek Matthews set a new personal best in the men's 60-meter hurdles, clocking 8.13 seconds to earn a sixth-place finish.

Senior Trellas Forrest had a great showing in the men's 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 47.59 seconds, good enough for a fifth place finish.


Sophomore Alocias Kipngetich delivered a standout performance at the SWAC Indoor Championships, setting two personal bests in the distance events. He secured a runner-up finish in the men's mile run with a PR of 4:24.56, and later placed second in the 800-meter run with another personal best of 1:54.89.

In the field events, Jeremiah Saintil continued his upward trajectory in the men's triple jump, recording a personal-best mark of 15.35 meters (50-04.50 ft.), securing a fifth-place finish.

Women's Highlights

Senior Teresa Gallegos continued to shine for the Lady Braves, securing a fifth-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a strong time of 10:43.48. She followed up with an impressive runner-up finish in the 5000-meter run, setting a new personal best in the event. Gallegos also competed in the women's mile run, crossing the finish line in 5:20.75 to claim seventh place.

In the women's pentathlonjunior Kaylin White showcased her versatility with standout performances across multiple events. She finished second in both the pentathlon long jump and pentathlon shot put, demonstrating her all-around athleticism. White also placed fifth in the pentathlon high jump, sixth in the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles, and seventh in the pentathlon 800-meter run, earning valuable points for the Lady Braves.

Looking Ahead

With several personal bests and strong finishes, the Braves gained valuable experience as they now shift their focus toward the outdoor track and field season. Alcorn State will return to action in March, looking to carry their momentum into the next phase of competition.
