JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Alcorn State University's Trellas Forrest extended his collegiate career on Wednesday by advancing to the quarterfinals of the men's 400-meter dash at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East First Round, hosted by the University of North Florida.

Competing among the nation's best, Forrest clocked a time of 46.58 seconds, securing a qualifying position out of Heat 2 and finishing 26th overall. The senior standout and reigning SWAC Champion continues to build on his strong postseason, and will return to the track for the quarterfinal round later this week.

Freshman Derrick Williams, making his NCAA postseason debut, competed in the men's 100-meter dash and finished with a time of 10.70 seconds, placing 46th overall. Williams also took part in the 200-meter dash, where he ran 21.35 seconds, good for 36th overall. While Williams did not advance to the next round, the two-time SWAC bronze medalist capped a record-breaking freshman season with pride, having qualified in two sprint events on the NCAA stage.

"Trellas advancing to the quarterfinals is a testament to all the hard work and dedication that he has put in throughout the season," said head coach Alonzo Banks. "Derrick has gained valuable experience that will motivate him to continue to pursue greatness, positioning himself for further advancement in the future."

Forrest will return to action for the 400-meter quarterfinals on Friday, May 30, with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
