MEET SCHEDULE

LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University track and field standouts Trellas Forrest and Derrick Williams are set to compete among the nation's elite at the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships – East First Round, hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., from May 28-31.

Senior Trellas Forrest enters the national stage with momentum and experience on his side. The reigning SWAC Champion in the 400-meter dash, Forrest posted a blazing personal-best time of 45.28 seconds, a mark that ranks 8th nationally and stands among the fastest in both school and SWAC history. After qualifying for Regionals last year, Forrest returns poised and prepared for the challenge ahead.

Joining him is rising freshman sensation Derrick Williams, who has burst onto the collegiate scene with remarkable speed. Williams earned bronze medals in both the 100m (10.28) and 200m (20.56 – PR) at the 2025 SWAC Outdoor Championships and has rewritten the Alcorn State record books in the process. He will compete in both sprint events, entering the meet ranked 35th in the nation in the 100m and 28th in the 200m.

"I'm extremely happy and excited for the opportunity for Trellas to compete at regionals again this year," said head coach Alonzo Banks. "He gained valuable experience last year, which has prepared him mentally for the rounds this year. Derrick is continuing his school record-breaking phenomenal freshman year. This will be a great opportunity for him to continue to show his abilities."

The East First Round serves as the qualifying stage for the NCAA National Championships. The top 12 finishers in each event will advance to the final round, hosted at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in June.
