NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Alcorn State University men's track and field team delivered a strong showing at the NSU Leon Johnson Invitational hosted by Northwestern State University on April 12, 2025, highlighted by multiple top-10 finishes and personal records (PRs).
Top Performances and Personal Records
- Derrick Williams had an outstanding day, claiming second place in the men's 100-meter dash with a PR of 10.40 seconds. He later captured first place in the men's 200-meter dash with a blazing PR of 20.65 seconds, ranking #8 among 2025 HBCU times and #14 in NCAA Division I.
- Trellas Forrest earned first place in the men's 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 46.18 seconds, currently ranked #3 among 2025 HBCU times and #26 in NCAA Division I. Forrest also ran third as part of the 4x100-meter relay team that clocked 40.49 seconds, ranking #8 among 2025 HBCU relays.
- Vederek Matthews had a strong meet as well, placing second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.61 seconds, and second in the 400-meter hurdles with a PR of 53.70 seconds.
- Alocias Kipngetich finished third in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:04.30, currently ranked #30 among 2025 HBCU performances.
- Bryan Alvarez turned in a solid distance performance, finishing fifth in the 1500-meter run in 4:12.70, and later capturing first place in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:23.95.
- Jeremiah Saintil had a stellar outing in the jumps, finishing eighth in the long jump with a mark of 6.66 meters (21-10.25 ft.) and winning first place in the triple jump with a jump of 14.62 meters (47-11.75 ft.), ranking #23 among HBCUs.
- Jadan Miller placed ninth in the men's discus throw with a PR of 43.98 meters (144-03 ft.), and finished 12th in the shot put with a throw of 12.97 meters (42-06.75 ft.).
- Everett Alberty earned a fifth-place finish in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 53.67 meters (176-01 ft.).
- The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Johnny Holloway III, Derrick Williams, Jaidon Shelby, and Trellas Forrest posted a strong third-place finish with a time of 40.49 seconds.
The Braves will return to action on Sunday, April 27, competing in the Jaguar Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama as they continue their outdoor season.
