HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alcorn State men's basketball earned a hard-fought 64–62 road win at Alabama A&M on Saturday afternoon at the AAMU Event Center, marking Head Coach Jake Morton's first Southwestern Athletic Conference victory at the helm of the Braves.
Alcorn trailed 34–29 at halftime but responded with a poised and disciplined second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 35–28 over the final 20 minutes. The Braves leaned on defensive pressure, timely shot-making, and execution down the stretch to secure the two-point victory.
Jameel Morris led Alcorn with a game-high 21 points on an efficient 7-of-8 shooting from the field, knocking down both of his three-point attempts and all five free throws. Morris also added eight rebounds and four assists, controlling the tempo throughout the afternoon.
Tycen McDaniels added 12 points and six rebounds, while Omari Hamilton chipped in 12 points, including a key three-pointer in the second half that helped swing momentum in Alcorn's favor. Nick Woodard finished with seven points and three rebounds, and Davian Williams contributed four points, three rebounds, and three assists.
The Braves shot 41.4 percent from the field and 76.9 percent at the free throw line, converting 10 of 13 attempts. Alcorn also capitalized on defensive stops late, forcing critical Alabama A&M misses in the final minute before closing out the win.
Alabama A&M was led by Koron Davis with 17 points, but the Bulldogs were held to just 28 points in the second half as Alcorn tightened defensively.
The victory improves Alcorn State to 2–12 overall and 1–1 in SWAC play, providing a milestone moment for Coach Morton and a confidence boost heading into the heart of the conference schedule.
Alcorn State returns home next as the Braves host Texas Southern on Saturday, January 17, inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
