LORMAN, Miss. — The Alcorn State women's basketball team continues their road trip Saturday afternoon with confidence and momentum, traveling to Huntsville to face Alabama A&M in a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup set for 2 p.m. The Lady Braves enter the contest riding a perfect 2-0 mark in SWAC play and continuing to establish their identity on both ends of the floor.

Alcorn has opened conference action with back-to-back road victories and currently sits at 5-8 overall, including a 2-5 mark away from home. The Lady Braves have leaned on balanced scoring, disciplined defense, and timely execution in the early stages of league play, traits that have fueled their strong conference start.

Senior guard Nakia Cheatham has been the offensive engine for Alcorn, leading the team at 13.0 points per game while shooting 44.0 percent from the field. Cheatham also contributes 5.6 rebounds per contest and has knocked down 16 three-pointers on the season, giving the Lady Braves a consistent perimeter and mid-range scoring threat. Her ability to score at all three levels has been a key factor in Alcorn's early SWAC success.

Kiarra Henderson continues to provide steady production and leadership in the backcourt, averaging 8.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while leading the team with 55 assists. Henderson's ability to control tempo and facilitate the offense has helped Alcorn maintain poise in close games, particularly on the road.

Maya Claytor adds a significant outside presence, averaging 7.0 points per game and shooting 38.4 percent from three-point range. Her perimeter shooting has opened up driving lanes for Cheatham and Henderson while stretching opposing defenses. Lauren Nelson has also been a reliable contributor, posting 5.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game and providing versatility on both ends of the floor.

Defensively, the Lady Braves have emphasized pressure and activity, forcing turnovers and limiting second-chance opportunities. Alcorn averages 33.7 rebounds per game and has shown improved defensive cohesion during conference play, a trend they will look to continue against an Alabama A&M squad defending its home court.

Saturday's matchup represents another important early test in the SWAC race as Alcorn seeks to remain unbeaten in conference action and continue building momentum as league play intensifies. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Huntsville as the Lady Braves look to make it three straight SWAC wins.
