LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University football team picked up a talented group during National Signing Day that will be able to make an immediate impact for the coming season. The Braves added a total of 12 additions both from signing day and with additions throughout the recruiting process for the coming season. The new players join the three that signed early in December to bring the group to 15.
Trey McCullough, OL/NG, 6-5/305, West Nassau High School, Callahan, FL
McCullough arrives from West Nassau High School in Callahan, Fla., a versatile offensive lineman that can play all five spots up front. He was named to the 2019 All-Nassau County Team. During the 2020 season, he helped the offense tally 290 points while reaching the playoffs. Put together a strong junior season in 2019 with eight wins and the offense collected 360 points on their way to making the playoffs again. As a sophomore in 2018, helped lead the team to nine wins, accumulating 366 points and advancing to the playoffs. Started his career strong as the team tallied 10 wins, scored 382 points and reached the playoffs. Competed in the Blue-Grey All-American Combine for the North Florida Region. Named to the Times-Union All-Coast Jacksonville-Area Football Team in 2019 landing on the Third Team. Landed on the All-County Team three straight years and was named the Lineman of the Year twice.
Emanuel Dabney, DB, 6-0/180, Callaway High School/Hinds Community College/Liberty University, Jackson, MS
Dabney transfers back home to Mississippi after playing at Liberty University in Virginia. During the 2020 season, the defensive back saw action in nine games that included seven starts, collecting 15 tackles (14 solo, along with 1.5 tackles for loss, seven passes broken up, along with a fumble recovery. During his first season at Liberty in 2019, Dabney played in nine games, posting 11 tackles (8 solo), along with a pair of passes broken up. Began his collegiate career at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss., where he earned All-State Second Team honors following his second season in which he had 33 tackles (28 solo), along with seven passes broken up and an interception. During his true freshman season, he came away with 15 tackles (12 solo), two tackles for loss and a pass broken up. During his high school career at Callaway High School, he was a three-star recruit by 24/7 sports. He finished his senior season with 60 tackles (22 solo), also added three interceptions, 10 passes broken up and a forced fumble. Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game participant. Added 41 tackles as a junior, with three interceptions.
BJ Rogers Jr., RB, 5-9/176, Arlington High School, Arlington, TX
Rogers Jr., was a force throughout his high school career breaking big runs with his vision and breakaway speed. A consistent producer for the 6A Arlington squad since his sophomore season, earned All-District accolades throughout his career including District Player of the Year as a sophomore. Entering the 2020 season, was listed as a Player to Watch by the Texas HS Football Preview after he capped the 2019 season rushing for 1,241 yards and 11 touchdowns. During his senior season, helped the offense pile up 325 points and reach the second round of the playoffs. Had a big junior season in addition to his numbers, helped the team score 536 points and tally nine wins, advancing to the third round of the playoffs. It was another playoff appearance as a sophomore helping Arlington to 11 wins and 529 total points. Began his high school career leading the team to 10 wins and the third round of the playoffs while accumulating 491 points.
Sheldon Russ, LB, 6-0/210, Theodore High School, Theodore, AL
Russ, a big hitting linebacker, helped power a defense that limited opponents to just 188 points during this past season while Theodore tallied 10 wins and went undefeated in league play. The team reached the playoffs during his junior season with eight wins, while the defense shut down opposing offenses allowing just 131 points. It was another playoff appearance and eight-win campaign as a sophomore, as the defense kept teams to just 86 points. Began his high school career with a six-win season and a trip to the playoffs as a freshman. Was named to the 2020 ASWA All-State Second Team and added All-Coastal Alabama First Team after tallying 97 tackles, nine tackles for loss and four sacks, along with forcing a pair of fumbles. He was also named to the 2019 All-State honorable mention team.
Kamren Ivory, QB, 6-2/215, Ramsay High School, Birmingham, AL
Ivory helped lead Ramsay to 12 wins and pile up 507 total points during the 2020 season as the team reached Regional play. As a junior, the team picked up 10 wins while scoring 454 points and advanced to the third round of the playoffs. Ivory helped the team to 11 wins as a sophomore and reached the third round of the playoffs after scoring 351 points. He began his career strong as a freshman with the team picking up eight wins and advanced to the playoffs. Ivory was named both the Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Most Outstanding Quarterback in 2020. He was named to the Class 5A First Team All-State honorable mention.
Malcolm Magee, S, 6-0/185, Ocean Springs High School/Colorado State University, Collins, MS
Magee returns back home to Mississippi after spending the previous two seasons at Colorado State. During his final season with the Rams in 2019, Magee saw action in four games on special teams and also spent time at running back. During his first season, he played in three games and was able to take a redshirt season having played under four games. During his high school career at Ocean Springs, put together an impressive senior season with 63 tackles and led the team with three interceptions. He also added 286 receiving yards. Spent time at quarterback as a junior, throwing for 727 yards and nine touchdowns. He took home All-State honors from USA Today and also earned honor roll each year in high school.
Cordarrian Richardson, RB, 6-0/240, Trezevant High School/University of Central Florida/Texas A&M University, Memphis, TN
Richardson spent the previous two seasons at Texas A&M as he saw action in 10 games during the 2019 season that included starts against Ole Miss and UTSA. Picked up his first 100-yard game on the ground when he rushed for 130 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown and adding a 17-yard touchdown pass against South Carolina. Finished the season rushing 25 times for 232 yards and four touchdowns. Wasn't able to play his first season due to transfer rules. Before arriving at Texas A&M, Richardson played the 2017 season for the University of Central Florida. Finished fifth on the team in rushing, averaging 3.6 yards per carry and reached the end zone twice for the undefeated Knights. He compiled 161 rushing yards on 45 carries, posting a season-high 59 yards against East Carolina on eight carries. Ended up fifth on the team with 10 money plays, money plays are defined as plays resulting in first downs or a touchdown. During his high school career at Trezevant, Richardson rushed for nearly 5,000 yards and was named Tennessee's Mr. Football after his senior season. He helped lead the team to the Tennessee Class 2A State Championship in 2015. He was a consensus four-star recruit by all three major services and was listed among the top-15 players in Tennessee and top-20 running back in the country.
Tyreic Martin, DL, 6-3/280, Valley High School/University of Miami, Lanett, AL
Martin arrives from the University of Miami where he played for the Hurricanes since 2016. After redshirting his first season, Martin played in a game in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons, before playing in two games in 2019. During his high school career at Valley, he was rated a three-star recruit and 51st-best strong-side defensive ends by 24/7 sports. He earned a three-star rating from ESPN and Rivals and was rated as the 28th-best player in the state of Alabama. Martin finished his career with 79 total tackles and 12 sacks.
Montrell Huff, DL, 6-4/250, Jefferson Davis High School/Mississippi Delta CC, Montgomery, AL
Huff played in nine games during the 2019 season at Mississippi Delta CC where he compiled 27 total tackles (17 solo), along with 3.5 tackles for loss, a half-sack, a forced fumble and two passes broken up. He tallied a season-high four tackles against Pearl River CC and had multiple tackles in at least five games. Prior to arriving at Mississippi Delta CC, Huff played the 2017 season at Butler (Kan.) CC. During his high school career at Jefferson Davis, Huff lettered all four seasons as a linebacker and defensive end. The versatile athlete was named the school's Athlete of the Year after competing in basketball, football and wrestling.
CJ Bolar, WR, 6-1/190, Purvis High School/Vanderbilt University, Purvis, MS
Bolar spent the previous two seasons playing at Vanderbilt, seeing action in nine games as a sophomore with six starts at wide receiver. He pulled in 11 receptions for 79 yards, with a long catch of 18 yards. He had at least one catch in six games, tallied a season-high three receptions at South Carolina and posted two catches against Georgia, Purdue and Ole Miss. Had a strong start to his collegiate career playing right away as a true freshman he saw action in 13 games that included eight starts. He was among 12 true freshmen to receive playing time during the season. He posted 34 receptions (third on the team and tied for fourth all-time by Vanderbilt freshman). Finished the season with 440 yards receiving and two touchdown catches. Had a career-high 93 yards receiving on six catches to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors following the win over Tennessee. During his high school career at Purvis, he was a consensus three-star prospect bringing in 45 receptions for 896 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior. He was named a two-time All-State and three-time All-District and two-time All-Area player. Led the team to the 2015 District title, a four-year honor roll member and earned the school's Martin Luther King Jr. Award.
Stadford Anderson, RB, 6-1/210, Glen Oaks High School/Northwestern State University, Baton Rouge, LA
Anderson put together an impressive three years playing at Northwestern State. During his junior season in 2019, Anderson averaged 5.3 yards per carry in his final three games (181 yards, 34 carries) and finished as the team's second-leading rusher. IN a big win over Sam Houston State, he rushed for 62 yards and had a key 17-yard carry to help secure the victory. Had the longest run of the season on the team of 40 yards against Lamar in which he finished with a season-best 84 yards in the win. Led the team in rushing in four games and shared the lead in another, also caught 13 passes out of the backfield. Anderson was the second-leading rusher with 363 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore in 2018. Appeared in 11 games, while starting one, posting career-highs in rushing attempts with 19 and yards with 88, adding a touchdown in the win over Stephen F. Austin. Had three games of at least 40 yards rushing and four others with at least 20 yards. He added 10 catches for 64 yards. Anderson began his career being the third-leading rusher on the team in 2017 rushing for 207 yards on 52 carries with a touchdown. He appeared in nine games, rushing for at least 20 yards in five total games. Was a four-year letterman playing at Glen Oaks High School where he was the top running back at the Red Stick Army Bowl and participated in the Max Emfinger All-American Bowl Classic. As a senior, he rushed for 663 yards on 80 carries with a score. He added 12 receptions for 115 yards while earning All-District honors. As a junior, he rushed for 1,315 yards and 13 touchdowns to take home Second Team All-District honors. Also, was a three-year letterman in track and two years in basketball. Named Mr. Senior at Glen Oaks and was an honor roll student.
Jaquan Jackson, RB, 5-11/183, De Kalb High School/Northwestern State University, De Kalb, TX
Jackson spent the previous seasons at Northwestern State University as he appeared in one game, tallying a two-yard carry against LSU during the 2019 season. He redshirted during the 2018 season and was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll that year. During his high school career at De Kalb, Jackson was named First-Team All-State and the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year in a record-breaking senior season in which he established the school single-season record for rushing yards (2,867) and single-game records for most carries (57), yards (485) and touchdowns (8, twice). As a junior he earned First Team All-District and Third-Team All-Area as a wide receiver, establishing the school single-game record with 174 receiving yards. He also earned Second Team All-District as a cornerback and as a wide receiver as a sophomore and Second Team All-District as a freshman. Jackson helped lead the team to the playoffs twice and lettered three years in track, reaching regionals in five events as a junior. He also lettered in basketball and was an honor roll student throughout his high school career.
