Box Score
LORMAN, Miss. – The women's basketball program led wire-to-wire in large part due to a 21-7 lead after the first quarter, marking its best conference start in 14 seasons by improving to 3-1 in SWAC play.
The 2006-07 squad rocketed out to a 5-1 record against Southwestern Athletic Conference competition en route to an 11-7 SWAC record and 15-13 record overall.
The Lady Braves defense was stifling, swiping 20 steals (the most it had all season) and holding the Lady Lions to just 52 points, Alcorn's second-lowest scoring total allowed in 2020-21. Offensively, the 72 points was its second-highest score of the year and their 16 assists were a season-best.
Kirdis Clark was a force in all aspects of the contest as she scored 12 points, logged a career-best seven steals (only one fewer than UAPB had as a team), a team-high six boards plus three assists. Her performance helped propel her to being named the SWAC Impact Player of the Week the following day.
Aja Wheeler posted career-highs for both points (19) and field goals made (8) while shooting an eye-opening 88.9% from the floor to go along with three steals and three rebounds.
Cayla Obillo posted nine points and a game-high five assists, dishing out more helpers than the Lady Lions did overall (4).
Coach Kilbert got contributions from the entire roster since ten players recorded at least one rebound, nine student-athletes scored and eight of the 11 Lady Braves to see action in the contest had an assist.
