HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The baseball program began the top half of the ninth with a four-run deficit and left with a five-run cushion as the Braves blindsided Alabama A&M with a nine-run ninth inning during a 16-14 triumph over the Bulldogs.
It was a memorable afternoon for all of those donning the Purple and Gold jerseys, as Alcorn only scored in two of the contest's nine frames but crossed the plate in bunches when they did via aseven-run third and the aforementioned nine-run ninth.
The 16 runs scored were the most offense put together during the entire 2021 campaign while the pitching staff fanned its second-highest amount of hitters, striking out 12 Dawgs between the five hurlers. Braves runners reached base a staggering 24 times combined, cobbling together 12 hits, eight walks and getting hit by four pitches. Numbers one through eight in the lineup all had at least one base knock while seven of those same batters drove in a RBI.
Earning the victory on the bump for the men from Lorman was Devin Puckett, his first career win as a Brave as he went a season-best 2.1 innings with a personal-high five Ks.
While getting a no-decision, starter Lane Gordon had an effective day in his own right, going five full frames, whiffing a career-high four batters, allowing only one earned run and denying Alabama A&M from any walks.
Tyler Daniels had three doubles on the year but two of those came in this ballgame, accounting for both of his hits with the latter two-bagger driving in two runs during the chaotic ninth
Garrett Palladino logged his first career multi-hit performance of the season, going 2-for-5 with two ribbies and two runs scored.
Kyle Jenkins reached base three times and came all the way around to score on each occasion, setting a season-best in the process.
Brandon Rembert was only able to participate ten ballgames due to a lingering injury but had his best outing of 2021 on that Saturday in Huntsville. His stat line was two base knocks, a double, a RBI and a run scored.
