Box Score
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The men's tennis program was swept during the doubles point but responded by claiming four of its five singles matchups to advance past the Panthers into the SWAC Semifinals, 4-2.
It was the Braves first win in a conference tournament setting since defeating Alabama A&M in the 2018 SWAC Quarterfinals before falling to Alabama State in the Semis.
The duos of #1 David Pata / Luka Andonov and #3 Kareem Bowe / Santiago Rocca both competed relentlessly but found themselves on the wrong ends of 6-3 and 6-4 doubles scores, respectively. The second flight of Stojan Stojanovski / Lucas Dini were locked in an even battle at five games apiece in the first set before it was called off.
Singles play immediately yielded better results as Andonov quickly tied the score at one with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory over Rodrigo Yoshikata in the third flight.
Next to finish was Dini at the fourth slot, easily dispatching Kevin Ugarteche by counts of 6-2 and 6-1 to give Alcorn the lead.
Flight one was the third to conclude, going to the distance between Pata and Jorge Juarez Caballerowith PVAMU ultimately knotting the proceedings at two after a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
#2 Stojanovski put the Braves ahead for good in the moments to follow, winning the first set handily (6-1) and getting taken to a tiebreaker in the second (65-77) before eventually putting Juan Malham Viada away with a victory in the third game (6-2).
Finally, it was up to #5 Rocca to put the final nail in the Panthers' coffin, and he did just that. The Argentinian came out of the box slow with a 2-6 defeat before bearing down to salt the match away with subsequent 6-1 plus 6-4 wins against Adrien Blackwell to help Alcorn advance.
Bowe's flight versus Tyreese Washington in the sixth position went unfinished as Bowe took the first game (6-4) and Washington claiming the second (6-3).
