HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Alcorn Braves Women's Cross Country team will have a representative in Friday's NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships for the second consecutive season, as junior Stellah Kiptui earned her slot in the elite 313-runner field at John Hunt Park. The 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Champion from Kabarnet, Kenya will appear for the Braves in the event for the second time, getting under way early on Friday, November 11.

With a field of 39 teams participating in the women's race, including only three SWAC programs, the event begins with the women toeing the line at 8:30 a.m. CT for the 6k race.

Last Time Out for Kiptui
- After earning 2021 SWAC Cross Country Performer of the Year, Kiptui topped the 2022 league lineup as the SWAC individual champion in the women's 5k, coming down the chute in a time of 18:03.4 and repeating with SWAC Performer of the Year honor. For her conference efforts, Kiptui was named National Athlete of the Week on October 25 the USTFCCCA (US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) from its home offices in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Career Bests for Kiptui
- Her performance in the NCAA Regional a year ago laid her career-best 22:43.0 in the 6k, garnering 124th place in the individual field.
- Her top career 5k came this season on the very same course slated for Friday's Regional competition, John Hunt Park. On September 16 at the North Alabama Showcase, Kiptui produced a time of 17:18.70. Also earlier this season, Kiptui earned second place against some of the Region's top runners at the LSU Invitational with a near-best 5k time 17:22.30, just five seconds behind LSU's event champion.

Location: John Hunt Cross Country Running Park, 2151 Airport Rd. Huntsville, AL 35801
Course: The University of North Alabama is the host institution with assistance from the Huntsville Sports Commission and the City of Huntsville. The championship caliber cross country course is a 10-meter wide, manicured grass surface course with multiple spurred loops. The course is located on the south side of John Hunt Park and accommodates high school, NCAA, and USA Track & Field needs for all their various training and competition events. There is approximately two miles of accessible walking trails that are great for coaches and spectators. There are great unimpeded views of the start and finish line.
