LORMAN, Miss. A total of 41 current and former Alcorn State University student-athletes had degrees conferred on Saturday's 2022 Spring Commencement Ceremony inside the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex.
Included in the graduates are four Braves who completed their master's degrees – Ty'mesha Nabors from women's track and field; Kyle Jenkins from baseball, Myshawn Smith from football; and softball graduate assistant Sarai Nui.
The Braves graduating class also has excelled in the arenas of competition. While at Alcorn, the graduates have won three conference championships, three east division titles, and participated in several Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tournaments, two Celebrations Bowls, and one National Invitation Tournament. A total of 17 grads have earned individual conference awards for their athletic and academic efforts.
"Congratulations to our graduating student-athletes," said Raynoid Dedeaux, Alcorn State Director of Athletics. "There are few accomplishments in life as fulfilling and personally rewarding as getting your college degree. To do so while also balancing the rigors of being a student-athlete is even more impressive. Take pride in what you've accomplished."
Braves fans will continue to see many of these graduates in their respective fields of play in 2022-23 as numerous student-athletes have remaining eligibility and will return to represent Alcorn State while attending graduate school or exploring other avenues of continued education.
