Cross Country Schedules Announced for Men and Women

Women’s squad looks to defend SWAC title

LORMAN, Miss. – In conjunction with the Department of Athletics, Jimmy Joseph (Alcorn State Director of Track & Field and Cross Country) and the Alcorn State Men's and Women's Cross Country teams officially announced the 2022 competitive schedules for the Braves on Tuesday, August 2.

Joseph, the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, is entering his fourth year at the helm in Lorman as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country for the Braves, after guiding the women's squad to its first SWAC title in school history a season ago.

Both the men's and the women's teams will compete at similar events throughout the 2022 campaign. In all, the Purple and Gold will compete in five regular season meets.

The 2022 seasons for both squads kicks off September 2, with a short trip to Clinton, Mississippi – site of last year's historic SWAC title win for the women, where the Braves will take part in The Opener hosted by Mississippi College at Choctaw Trails.

On September 16, the Braves travel to Huntsville, Alabama where they will compete in the North Alabama Invitational/Showcase hosted by the University of North Alabama at John Hunt Cross Country Park.

Alcorn State will compete in the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouse, Louisiana on September 23, followed by a return to the "Pelican State" to participate in the Louisiana Tech Invitational in Ruston on October 1.

This year's SWAC Championships are scheduled for October 24, as Florida A&M will play host to the annual event in Tallahassee, Florida at Apalachee Regional Park. Meanwhile, the NCAA South Regional Championships are slated to take place November 11, at John Hunt Cross Country Park in Huntsville, Ala.

The NCAA Championships will occur eight days later at Oklahoma State Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla.
