Cross Country Ready for North Alabama Showcase

Men’s and Women’s teams travel to Huntsville, Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alcorn State travels to Huntsville, Alabama on Friday, Sept. 16, as both the men's and women's cross country squads will participate in the North Alabama Showcase. Along with the Huntsville Sports Commission, the University of North Alabama is hosting this year's event at John Hunt Park.
 
More than 30 college/university teams are participating in the men's event, which will be ran as an 8K, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
 
On the women's side, more than 40 schools have entered the field, with the race being ran as a 5K beginning at 8:15 a.m.
 
In all, a total of 825 runners in total are taking part in the showcase across both the men's and women's events.
 
Awards are scheduled to be presented near the park entrance at 9:15 a.m.

Last time out for the Braves on the women's side, Stellah Kiptui took individual honors in winning The Opener hosted by Mississippi College on September 2. Just behind her was Runelda Jackson who finished third overall for the race.
 
For her efforts, Kiptui was named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Runner of the Week for Sept. 5-11.
 
As for the men the last time out, the Braves got a solid performance from sophomore David Smith – a Jackson, Mississippi native who was competing close to home in the race, along with Marciano Taylor to register the top two times for the Purple and Gold.
