NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Alcorn State Volleyball is set to compete in its last regular season tournament of the 2022 campaign this weekend, as the Braves travel to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the Tennessee State Invitational hosted by Big Blue at Kean Hall on the TSU campus.
Â
Alcorn (1-9) is joined for the tournament by North Alabama, Belmont and host Tennessee State.
Â
The Braves open the weekend against North Alabama on Friday, Sept. 16, at noon. That match will be immediately followed by the second of a doubleheader affair for the Purple and Gold, as the Braves turn around and face Belmont – also located in Nashville, at 3 p.m.
Â
Alcorn concludes the weekend facing off against the Tennessee State Tigers on Saturday, Sept. 17, with the match scheduled for 9 a.m.
Â
Alcorn heads into the weekend on the heels of a tough 3-0 setback midweek at ULM. The Braves were led in the match against the Warhawks by 10 kills from
Faith Archibong.
Jeda Curry and
Alaina Armstrong backed her up with seven kills each on the night. The sets were supplied by freshman
Ramona Pulu, finishing the match with a team-high 22 assists. And the defense was spearheaded by
Mikenzie Young-Mullins with nine digs, as she was backed up nicely by Armstrong with seven digs of her own.
Â
Just two weeks ago in their last tournament, newcomers Pulu and
Demya Tate were each named to the Owls Paradise Classic All-Tournament Team for their play in the three-match, two-day event hosted by Florida Atlantic.
Â
Tate picked up 12 kills, 11 blocks and five assists on the weekend in matches against fellow Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) member Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Stetson and the host FAU Owls, respectively. As for Pulu, the Henderson, Nevada freshman was up for SWAC Setter of the Week honors as she finished the weekend tournament with a team-high 41 assists, 15 digs and three kills across the three matches played by the Purple and Gold.
Â
Live stats for each match are available through Sidearm, while all matches against TSU will be carried live on ESPN+.
