BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time during the 2022 season, Alcorn's
Stellah Kiptui has been named as the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week (Sept. 26 – Oct. 2) announced by the league office on Monday evening from their headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
A sophomore from Kabarnet, Kenya, Kiptui – the 2021 SWAC Championships Most Outstanding Performer on the women's side, placed second individually in the 5K event over the weekend at the LSU Invite with a time of 17:22.30 overall. Her finishing time was just five seconds behind race-winner, LSU's Lorena Rangel Batres.
"Stellah [Kiptui] is a hardworking, gifted young woman who does everything to the best of her ability, and we are ecstatic about her performances," commented
Jimmy Joseph, Alcorn Director of Track & Field. "We look forward to her reaching new heights and continuing to represent Alcorn State University."
As a team, the Braves finished the meet in third place.
Alcorn Women's Cross Country returns to the course to compete in the Crimson Classic on Friday, Oct. 14, at 8 a.m. The event will take place at Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
