HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Making her second consecutive season appearing in the event for Alcorn, junior
Stellah Kiptui cut 41 seconds off her career mark to finish 113th at the NCAA South Regional Cross Country Championships on Friday morning. Running for the second time this season at Huntsville's John Hunt Park, Kiptui registered a 6k time of 22:02.00 to notch a new career best for the distance.
Kiptui, a 5-foot-2 junior from Kabarnet, Kenya, recorded a 113th-place finish to improve nine spots and 41 seconds over her 2021 Regional debut. This season, she proved to be the top Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) performer in the final field of 228 runners.
"Although we didn't get the race we wanted, Stellah competed well," stated Alcorn Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Jimmy Joseph.
"I'm proud of the accomplishments she's achieved to get here again, with the help of Coach [Donald] Bond."
Finishing the regular season as the SWAC Individual Champion on October 24th, Kiptui was a repeat awardee for SWAC Cross Country Performer of the Year and was the final US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week honoree for the 2022 season.
Kiptui and the Braves will now turn their attention to preparation and training for the 2023 Indoor Track and Field season, which will open competition in January. Stay tuned to
