PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas. – The women's track & field team won a gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the SWAC Outdoor Championships, led by star sophomore Runelda Jackson.
Jackson stood out amongst her competition all week long, accounting for 60% of the team's medal total and just under half (24) of its 50 points scored.
A native of Belle Glade, Florida, she obliterated the six-year 10000m program record, besting it by just over two-and-a-half minutes with a first-place time of 39:33.17. Her effort during the 5000m (19:26.93) garnered a silver medal while she completed the track & field trifecta with the bronze for the 1500m (4:50.57).
During her abbreviated two-year stint on "The Reservation", the Palm Beach Central High School product has already racked up the program records for outdoor 10000m, outdoor 5000m (18:49.08) and indoor 5000m 19:18.96.
The Lady Braves' two other medals were won by Akili Pleas-Carne for her second-place time of 1:02.13 during the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m quartet of An'Twanique Kinsler, Endya Scott, Jasmine Ward and Pleas-Carne at 3:48.47 to secure the bronze.
